Post Modern
I have a bitter-sweet relationship with Post Modern work. Particularly at this point there became a chasm between the art world and the public. With artists referring to those who did not understand the significance of the work 'non-artists' and the public becoming alienated by work that visually without explanation can leave one bewildered. I often suggested in Art History that a 'artist's brochure' should be made available to gallery goers as a road map. Can save much alienation and pretentiousness. I do ascribe to the notion that Modern Art was deliberately showcased and 'canonized' by the owning class during the late 1940's post war culture, but discussed in the 1930's that Art that teaches, informs the public was a problem. so the owning class who largely held the purse for the art world created a whole new genre that was vague in its intentions, emphasized color and form over content, and moved an individual without informing them of one damn useful thing, other than porcelain Michael Jacksons, pornography with your wife and giant flower rabbits are fine art. In fact, my Art History professor did say of post modern, it is about the message and package over skill and aesthetics. That is, I could make my bedroom into a live art installation if presented in the correct way. Wake me up when this is over. How about the sculptor who did the invisible statue? And it sold! And then another 'artist' says he was ripped off, has the original invisible statue. Its what Spengler said, "When a culture has passed through its golden era and has exhausted its forms, it will repeat the past as parodies of itself." -The Decline of Western Civilization
